“This is exactly what we needed” Pat McAfee is stoked to have Matt Ryan as the Colts quarterback for 2022
Matt Ryan and Pat McAfee
Matt Ryan has had a historic run with the Atlanta Falcons that includes winning an MVP along with an Offensive Player of the Year as well as a Super Bowl appearance. He’s now headed to Indianapolis and leaves Atlanta as one of the most successful players in franchise history.
When the Falcons drafted Matt Ryan with the 3rd overall pick in 2008, he was brought in to be the face of the franchise. Well, Ryan proved to be exactly that as in his rookie season he led the team to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth.
Since then, he’s brought in the aforementioned MVP and OPOY but along with that, he has also led his team to 6 10-win seasons. One unbelievable stat from Ryan is the fact that he threw for at least 4000 yards in 10 straight seasons and almost made it 11 but fell 32 yards short in 2021.
These last few seasons haven’t been the most flashy or gaudy but Matt Ryan certainly has a couple of years more left in the tank. Ian Rapoport certainly thinks so as he joined ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ to discuss the former MVPs trade to Indianapolis.
Pat McAfee believes Matt Ryan is a major positive for the Colts
On his show ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, Pat McAfee was quoted saying “Matt Ryan, as soon as I caught wind that it was possible and I started thinking about it I was like, yeah this is exactly the human we need. Everything that I was mad about with Carson, this is the exact opposite. This is exactly right. This is our guy, this is what we needed. I was very pumped about it.”
Ian Rapoport joined the show and was quoted saying “I think it’s a good trade. I think he has enough left, probably 2 years, at worst 1 year which is fine. You still have to find your franchise guy but on the other hand, the money isn’t bad and you only gave up a 3. At worst, he’ll be an average quarterback. That’s the absolute worst. You have a great running game and great defense so you’re in the mix.”
Matt Ryan could truly be the final piece of the puzzle for the Colts. Jonathan Taylor leads a great rushing game and their defense was certainly good last season and is expected to be up there again. The one struggle they may have is if Michael Pittman isn’t a true #1 receiver. But, Matty Ice could still be good enough to overcome that.
