This offseason has seen moves made by players and teams that were historic and never done before in the league. Players were guaranteed an absurd amount of money making them the richest were in the NFL.

If reports are to be believed, Russell Wilson who recently made a move from Seattle to Denver is asking for a $250 million contract for five years. NFL fans and critics alike are confounded by this contract. Most of the critics are wondering whether it’s suicide or not to bet such a huge amount on Wilson.

“That might be $60-65 million two years from now” – Pat McAfee on Russell Wilson allegedly asking for 5 years, $250 million contract

Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show speculated on the effect of this alleged deal and what it means for Wilson and the Broncos. “Just like Russell Wilson allegedly — we don’t know if this is real or not, Russell Wilson’s asking price for two years left on his deal that he structured around in Seattle. Allegedly his asking price is 5 years, $250 million which would obviously be $50 million per via Zack Kelberman,” McAfee said.

“$50 million is the asking price for right now is what Russell Wilson’s people are saying. You let this run into the last year of the contract after this year that might be $60-65 million two years from now for a quarterback. Take it or leave it!” Currently, Wilson has two years left on a four-year, $140 million deal with remaining cap hits of $24 and $27 million, with only $5 million of guaranteed money left.

McAfee also commented on the QB’s age and wondered if it would be the right decision to bet on Wilson. The perennial Pro Bowler is 33 years old and while it might not be that old as of now but five years down the line he will be 38 and that brings into question the productivity at that age. Not everyone is built like Tom Brady who can win a Super Bowl even at the age of 42.

The Broncos gave up two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and tight end Noah Fant for Russell Wilson. So, the Denver Broncos have no other choice than to give into Russell Wilson’s demands. Wilson might very well ask the entire $250 million to be guaranteed following in the footsteps of Deshaun Watson who signed a guaranteed $230 million contract with the Cleveland Browns. This still remains to be a rumor and it’ll be interesting to see whether it turns out to be true or not!
