The newest member of the Philadelphia Eagles is turning out to be quite the superstar. Devon Allen won his heat in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championships on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon. He will now advance to the semifinals on Sunday.

Allen became a wide receiver for the Eagles just a few months back in April and will join their training camp which starts on July 26. Before that, he will go on to compete in the semifinals and try to win his maiden medal for Team USA.

Devon Allen played wideout at the University of Oregon for three years and excelled in his first year. During his three years at Oregon, Allen recorded 41 receptions for 684 yards and eight touchdowns. Despite a great college career, Allen opted out of trying out for the NFL and focused his energy on hurdling and track-and-field.

The 27-year-old track star is a former NCAA champion in the 110-hurdles in 2014 and 2016 while representing the University of Oregon. He has also represented the United States at two Olympics and two World Championships but failed to secure a podium each time.

While participating in the football pro day held for players at Oregon during the 2022 preseason, Allen ran an unofficial 4.35-second 40-yard dash. This run was enough to attract the attention of NFL scouts present at the Pro day. He impressed the Eagles to have the opportunity to visit their training facility, the NovaCare Complex on April 7.

A day later, Devon Allen signed a three-year undrafted rookie deal with the Eagles and will soon be a part of their elite wide receiving core. He has a lot of competition ahead of him to have a chance to earn a roster spot. A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Zach Pascal, Jalen Reagor, and Greg Ward are the current stars of the Eagles’ WR room. While it may be a tough job for Allen to beat out these pros after leaving behind football, he might get a chance to showcase his insane speed on the special teams and contribute to the team.
