For the Bucs, the last two seasons have been incredible. They were the champions in the 2020 season and reached the playoffs this time around as well. However, Bucs fans were left dejected and disappointed when star QB Tom Brady recently announced his retirement from the game.
To add to the misery, another Bucs star has decided to end his career at a relatively young age. Ali Marpet, the left guard who helped protect Tom Brady during the Bucs’ Super Bowl title-winning season in 2020, recently announced his retirement at the age of 28.
“7 years is not a ‘short’ NFL career”: Rich Ohrnberger extends his support to Ali Marpet
This was indeed an astonishing decision as Ali was named to the Pro Bowl last season. He took to Instagram on Sunday to inform the world about his decision. According to ESPN, the reason behind the sudden retirement decision is his health condition.
“After seven formidable years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I’ve come to the decision to retire from the game that has given me so much. This organization and the people surrounding it have helped not only fulfill a dream, but also helped build me into the person I am today,” Marpet wrote in his post.
Marpet was targeted by many for calling it quits way too soon. Hitting back at the trolls, Rich Ohrnberger took to Twitter to extend his support to Ali. “7 years is not a “short” NFL career for an offensive lineman. Your body and brain can take a beating in that amount of time,” he wrote.
Although fans are disappointed to see Ali step away, one must respect the decision taken by the star player.
