“Right now, I’m not ready to…” Rob Gronkowski provides a shocking update about his future with the Buccaneers

Gronkowski in action for the Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to wait to find out if former All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski will be playing for them in 2022. Despite Tom Brady announcing his shocking return to Tampa, Gronk is still unsure about whether or not he wants to play.

After a year away from football in 2019, Gronkowski made his return to football in 2020 with Brady and the Buccaneers and helped bring a Super Bowl title to Tampa Bay. His 2021 season was statistically better than 2020 despite only playing 12 games and nearly topped 1000 receiving yards for the 5th time in his career.

The Buccaneers have known that Rob Gronkowski might not be coming back since January now as after their divisional-round loss he was quoted saying “I’m really going to basically do what’s best for myself in terms of the football world. It’s going to be a decision based upon of where I’m at in a couple weeks.”

It certainly has been more than just a couple of weeks since he made those comments but it seems as though nothing has changed for him as he recently provided an update on how he feels about a return.

Rob Gronkowski spoke to ‘TMZ’ about his future in the NFL and was quoted saying “I knew if I started catching some passes that my head would have started turning, like, ‘Oh, crap, I got to get back out on the field.’ And, right now, I’m not ready to get back out on that field. I’m not ready to commit to the game of football right now.”

Given that Gronk had already caused speculation about him retiring prior to the 2022 season, people believed that Tom Brady’s return would be enough to convince him to give it at least one more go with the Buccaneers. However, it seems that wasn’t enough to have Gronkowski commit.

One other possible reason is that it could just be that Rob Gronkowski simply does not want to take part in training camp right now. He’d be going into his 13th season in the NFL and would surely be sick of it by now. The thought of going through another camp could be a bit of a burden at this moment but one he could get over given some time. For now, all we can do is wait and see how this pans out.
