New Orleans Saints tried to approach Drew Brees to come out of retirement

New Orleans Saints are in desperate need of a quarterback as they look to salvage their NFL season. This prompted them to pull out something from out of the hat, as they made an official request to one of their former legendary quarterbacks, Drew Brees.
The 42-year old quarterback announced his retirement this year, almost 15 years after he had joined New Orleans Saints. According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune, Saints head coach Sean Payton lobbied franchise legend Drew Brees to come out of retirement for one game only.

They ended up signing former Green Bay Packers quarterback Blake Bortles to fix the quarterback situation ahead of their match against the Miami Dolphins.
The Saints are struggling to field quarterbacks for the next match, as both Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian hit the reserve/COVID-19 list, last week. Alongside them, their number one quarterback Jameis Winston will be out for the entire season, after suffering an ACL tear.
For their upcoming game on Boxing day, the Saints thereby only have fourth-round rookie Ian Book as the only fit quarterback available for the encounter. This made, the Saints coach make an extraordinary offer to Brees, just to see if he can pursue the legend to make one more appearance when his side needs him.
However, the request did not prove enough for Drew Brees to join them back, and he reportedly replied to Payton with a picture of him playing golf.
Adding to the report, Brees “wasn’t 100% confident he would be able to make the throws necessary to successfully lead the offense.”
