The Las Vegas Raiders just signed Jimmy Garoppolo on a 3-year 67.5 million dollar deal to replace their former franchise quarterback Derek Carr. However, the Raiders have also added plenty of talents to their roster. Apart from Garoppolo, their biggest acquisition so far in the free agency is the former New England Patriots wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers.

Furthermore, they have also added tight end Austin Hooper, linebacker Robert Spillane and DB Marcus Epps, and plenty of other talents. Their GM Dave Ziegler has been active so far and has done a decent job of addressing his team’s needs in the free agency.

But the Raiders still lack depth at a lot of positions which they must address in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. The Raiders have a total of whopping 12 draft picks to strengthen their roster. So should they use one of those 12 picks to target a quarterback?

Yes, the Raiders should add a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft. Along with losing Derek Carr, the Las Vegas-based franchise also lost their backup QB Jarrett Stidham, who signed a two-year contract with the Denver Broncos.

So, even if they are drafting a QB to develop under Jimmy Garoppolo, they should at least draft one to add depth to that important position. If the Raiders do decide to use Jimmy G as a bridge quarterback, they should consider using their 7th overall pick or trade up a bit to draft either Will Levis or Anthony Richardson since they both have high potential to become a starting QB in the NFL.

Or else, they can use their second or third-round pick to draft Hendon Hooker who also has the potential to become a starter in the league. Since Hooker is 25 years old, he will go under the radar of plenty of NFL teams.

Also if the Raiders decide to try to win with Jimmy Garoppolo, they should use their early-round picks to add talent in other positions and simply draft either Stetson Bennett or Max Duggan in the later rounds. Both of those QBs will be solid backup QB in the league and the Raiders wouldn’t have to invest a lot in them.

Besides, the worst-case scenario would only be a loss of a later-round pick but in best case scenario, they could surpass the expectations and become a starter like the next Brock Purdy and surprise everyone in the league. The rewards outweigh the risk.
