While the Super Bowl itself is an exciting event for sports fans, the half-time show is no joke either. Two in ten Americans watch the Super Bowl solely for the halftime show. However, finding out Kendrick Lamar will be headlining Super Bowl LIX instead of Lil Wayne has fans disappointed and angry.
The Super Bowl LIX is out with its artist lineup and eerily, it does not have fan support. The game is set to take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which was where pop star Lil Wayne grew up. That information was tagged along with the fans’ expectations that the native singer would be performing at the aforementioned Super Bowl half-time show.
However, that did not happen, much to the fans’ dismay. They argue that Wayne’s legacy in his hometown should have gotten him a spot at the table.
Lil Wayne’s manager, Fabian Marasciull, even vocally expressed his frustration. In an Instagram story, he firmly stated that he would never again put himself and Wayne in a position of dependency. Above the anger, Marasciull wrote that he was mostly inspired. The post was accompanied by Wayne’s 2010 hit “Right Above It” in the background.
Previously, Lil Wayne had also expressed his wish to perform at the Super Bowl. In a conversation with Bleacher Report, he mentioned that performing in his home city would be an achievement for him. As iconic as that would have been, up until the starting of the year, Wayne had hoped for his invitation.
Cam’Ron and Mase think Lil Wayne being excluded from Super Bowl is payback
Only recently, season five of the “It Is What It Is” podcast has officially launched, and it is already making headlines. The show hosts Cam’ron and Mase had some things to say about the NFL’s decision to have Kendrick Lamar headline the Super Bowl halftime show. While they are not the only influential figures to publicly support Wayne, they are the latest.
Cam’Ron started out by saying that he loved Lamar and that Lamar was ‘one of the top artists of this generation’. He then ripped the band-aid off by voicing that this was a payback since Wayne had a problem with somebody who was a part of the organization. His reference to Jay-Z was as clear as day.
Cam’Ron then uttered his bewilderment about hating at that age being wild. The entirety of the internet joined alliances at the fact that Lil Wayne would have been the best pick. While some fans still think there is a way around it if he showed up for a cameo with Lamar considering their successful collab on “Mona Lisa” .
