“I always had a feeling this would get done” – Terry McLaurin was confident about extension with the Commanders, says ‘I wanted to be here’

There was uncertainty about the return of Washington Commanders’ most productive wide receiver Terry McLaurin seeing as how he missed the offseason workouts including mandatory minicamps. But all that has been put to rest as he signed a massive three-year contract extension worth $71 million with a $28 million signing bonus.
McLaurin has been the best receiver for the Commanders with no signs of drop in productivity given how the team has gone through 9 different quarterbacks in four years. While there were doubts about McLaurin signing back with the Commanders outside the building, however, the star wideout was confident that he would be back for the 2022 season.
Terry McLaurin is the best receiver in Washington right now
Washing Commanders signed Terry McLaurin in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft with a four-year rookie contract which came to an end after the 2021 season. During his four years in Washington, the 26-year-old has had over 3,090 yards with a 14 YPC average making him the most dangerous weapon in the Commanders’ arsenal.
Terry McLaurin had complete faith that he would be back in Washington. “I felt confident honestly,” McLaurin said a press conference on Wednesday. “From talking to my agent, Buddy (Baker), to the conversations I’ve had with coach (Ron) Rivera, it was very evident that they wanted me to be here, and I wanted to be here. You never know until you know, but I always had a feeling this would get done.”
Head coach Ron Rivera said extending McLaurin was a “priority” for the Commanders. “With Terry, I think one of the things that we were able to do was take care of one of our captains,” Rivera explained, “take care of one of the guys that means an awful lot for one side of the football and for the team as a whole.”
After going through numerous quarterbacks during his stint in Washington, Terry shared how he deals with a new signal-caller brought into the fold. “My main priority and mindset with each quarterback is to put my best foot forward and make them look good in any way, shape or form I can,” McLaurin said. “I’ve never really tried to focus on how many I’ve had and although you want to try to get a connection with a guy and have some longevity, I’ve had fun and I’ve learned from all the quarterbacks I’ve had up until this point.”
When asked about his plans for the team’s future McLaurin said, “I want to get to the playoffs and have a chance to win the Super Bowl. Personally, I want to continue to try to be one of the top receivers in this league. I don’t really go into the season thinking, oh, I need 1,500 yards, this, this and this. I think truly you have the most success individually when you have the most success as a team.”
The Commanders have a gem of a guy and one of the best receivers of the league in McLaurin. Let’s see how the team performs with Carson Wentz leading them and McLaurin being his best after securing his future for the next four years.
