“They’re trying to GET RID OF HIM!”: Shannon Sharpe believes Browns will eventually leave Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield’s future at the Browns still remains quite an unpredictable matter. It is still not clear whether the Browns will be keeping hold of their 2018 No.1 pick or will be parting ways with him and it remains an issue of uncertainty.

To speak in clear terms, the Browns currently have the likes of Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett. This means they are not in any considerable amount of requirement to keep hold of Baker Mayfield.

However while this cloud of confusion hovers over the future of Baker Mayfield at the Browns, general manager Andrew Berry seems to be interested in keeping hold of him. Speaking with the reporters after their annual meeting, Berry disclosed that they’re in no rush to offload their quarterback.

Baker is a professional, he’s under contract, and we have the [cap] flexibility whether he’s on the roster or not. So we don’t really feel pressed to rush into anything that’s suboptimal.”

The reality of it is, quarterbacks are valuable,” Berry said. “Baker’s a good player and you can’t have enough good players on your roster. We’ve already planned to make it work and we’ll just see how the next few weeks ago, the next few months go.”

But NFL pundit Shannon Sharpe is of a different opinion. He thinks that the Browns are just delaying an inevitable departure for Baker Mayfield and are trying to retain his value.

“I think at the moment, the Browns are trying to retain as much value of Baker Mayfield which I don’t know how they can seriously. Everybody knows that they can’t pay the wages of Deshaun Watson as well as Baker Mayfield and what they are trying to do is hold on for as long as possible to retain his value“,” he said.
