“Don’t be a distraction,” Tim Tebow reveals surprise request from former coach Bill Belichick
Tim Tebow, one of the NFL’s most popular players back in the day had a brief stint with the New England Patriots. The 34-year old was brought into the Patriots squad in 2012, by coach Bill Belichick to play as the No.2 quarterback in the roster behind Tom Brady.
However, the stint did not turn out fruitful for him and he was eventually released the next year in 2013 and decided to look for a broadcasting career while also maintaining that he would look for opportunities to return to the big stage if given the chance.
Tim Tebow was surprised to hear such a request from his coach
Although Tim Tebow did not have an eventful time with Bill Belichick, he revealed a major anecdote from his time at the franchise during an appearance Tuesday on CBS Sports Radio’s “Maggie and Perloff.”
“It was something that my agent would always say,” Tebow said. The highly popular quarterback said that Bill Belichick wanted him to stay under the radar and not attract too much media attention onto himself while he was with the Patriots.
“He’d talk to other teams and talk to their GMs, talk to their owners and they’d say we love it, but we can’t have a backup quarterback with that much attention. “
“I mean, it’s something that honestly I and Belichick talked about a lot when I was there. When we signed, he said ‘So excited, but we need you to stay under the radar.’
“I literally spent one whole year, you can go look it up, almost one whole year training out on the West Coast where I stayed away from literally everything. It was right after I got cut from the Patriots and I tried to stay under the radar to avoid that, so it wouldn’t be as big of a deal.”
Tim Tebow returned to the NFL circuit after a gap of 6 years following his exit with the Philadelphia Eagles as he was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 but has now returned to a career off the pitch.
