“It’s the least I can do…” T. J. Houshmandzadeh makes heart touching gesture for Cincy Grandpa ahead of Super Bowl 56
The Cincinnati Bengals have made it into the marquee Super Bowl for the first time this century, after a hiatus of 33 years. The Bengals will take on the Los Angeles Rams in the grand fixture to fight for their first-ever Super Bowl championship in a bid to make history.
The Bengals have only had two Super Bowl appearances so far in their esteemed 54-year history. The franchise played their first-ever match in 1968 and it has been a painful and long wait for each and every Bengals fan so far. One of the oldest fans of the franchise is James Lipscomb, more popularly known as Cincy Grandpa, the 86-year old who was among those to see them play their first match.
Cincy Grandpa’s story went viral after Cincinnati Bengals’ AFC Championship victory
Cincy Grandpa has come to an almost full circle, and he was overwhelmed with emotions when the franchise did eventually confirm their Super Bowl LVI spot with an improbable victory against the Kansas City Chiefs to claim their AFC Championship.
Cincy Grandpa’s emotional reaction to the victory was captured by his daughter and the internet heaped its love on him. A fundraiser was immediately started to make arrangements for James Lipscomb to take the trip to LA and attend the historical game.
All of those efforts from the fans gave paid off and he received a pleasant surprise from one of the Cincinnati Bengals’ former players in the form of T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
The former Bengals wide receiver met Cincy Grandpa ahead of the Super Bowl encounter and gifted him a signed ball after having a lengthy conversation with him and his family.
TJ Houshmandzadeh said, “I showed my wife the video and she started crying. So then I went back to the post and I was like somebody get me in contact with him… I am very appreciative of people and fans and supporters when we play because I know a lot of times that gets taken for granted. I say thank you and that’s the least I can do because without fans we don’t have a game.”
