“I have other responsibilities” – Tom Brady opens up about his retirement and return

The biggest shock that rattled the NFL world was Tom Brady retiring after 22 legendary seasons in the NFL. While some believed that the Bucs QB had finally decided to hang his cleats others were sure that Brady was still not finished yet. And it turned out to be true just after 41 days when Brady announced he still has some “unfinished business” left on the field.

Following the golf charity game “The Match” between old bulls Brady and Rodgers and young guns Mahomes and Allen, there was a discussion that featured all these star QBs along with TNT’s Ernie Johnson. During the discussion, Johnson asked the 7x Super Bowl champ about his state of mind that led to his decision of retiring and un-retiring this offseason.

Tom Brady says there are responsibilities that are more important than his career

Tom Brady said that his priorities have changed over the years as he got older because he had other responsibilities as well. If he were the same age as Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, he would be ready to play another season in a heartbeat. “So the responsibilities are many people taking care of me and things that I have off the field that are really important to me like my family, my kids, my wife’s done an amazing job of that,” Brady said. “That’s a big commitment from her, so it’s harder when you get older. I don’t even think they know what’s coming. Aaron (Rodgers) knows these things because your life gets bigger as we all do, our life gets more full, there’s more responsibilities.”

“At this stage it’s like 55 percent yes and 45 percent no,” Brady continued. “It’s not 100-0, that’s just the reality. It’s not that I’m not 100 percent committed. It is just as soon as I make the commitment to do it, I’m like ‘Ugh, alright here we go.’ It’s like running a marathon. You can’t decide two weeks before the marathon, ‘Hey, I’m going to start running.’ You got to decide long in advance. We were coming right into free agency and I felt some pressure through it. I talked to the team and the organization and it all worked out.”

While it is amazing to have the undisputed all-time great back out on the field once again, this might be the last season he ever plays. This statement is bolstered by Brady signing a mammoth deal of $375 million dollars with FOX Sports to be their lead NFL analyst alongside play-by-play commentator Kevin Burkhardt.

Brady has given more to this game than any other player might ever give. It has been amazing to witness greatness for 22 years and it might be time that Brady finally hangs up his cape and enjoy the fruits of his labor along with his family. The end of the 2022 season might also mark the end of the most glorious journey of the No.199th pick who wanted to show the entire world what he was capable of.
