“Tom Brady wanted Belichick out?” – Albert Breer reveals Brady wanted someone else as the HC for the Patriots

“Tom Brady wanted Belichick out?” – Albert Breer reveals Brady wanted someone else as the HC for the Patriots

The deflategate scandal is the biggest controversy that the iconic duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichcik had to endure.

Tom Brady sent shockwaves throughout the NFL when he announced his return on Sunday. The 44-year old quarterback is set to return to Tampa Bay for his 23rd season in the league. Now that the legendary QB is back again with the Bucs, the organization is busy signing weapons for Brady to use in the 2022 season.

With Brady’s return, there were rumors about a coaching change in Tampa Bay. These rumors are based upon a previous incident where Brady tried to replace Patriots head coach Bill Belichick back in 2017.

MMQB’s Albert Breer weighed in on the chances of Bruce Arians being fired from the Buccaneers. He is confident that there won’t be any coaching change in Tampa. Breer explained how Tom Brady picked Bill O’Brien as Bellichick’s successor and wanted him to be New England’s head coach.

“(Bill O’Brien) was who was going to be the head coach,” Breer said during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston. “That’s who Tom Brady helped line up as the head coach if he had won the power struggle with Bill Belichick in 2017. If Belichick is outta here, after everything that happened in’ 17, I’m telling you Bill O’Brien would be the head guy.”

Bill O’Brien served as the head coach for the Houston Texans from 2014 to 2020. He was also a part of the Patriots coaching staff for 5 years. During his time with the Texans, O’Brien had five winning seasons, winning four AFC South titles and finishing with a respectable 52-48 record. The power struggle between Brady and Belichick in 2017 strained their relationship.

However, Brady and Belichick would go on to appear in two more Super Bowls together. The quarterback left New England at the end of the 2019 season. It still seems unlike Brady to push out his head coach with whom he created the Patriots dynasty. One has to wonder what the Patriots dynasty would’ve looked like with Belichick as the head coach.

Let’s just hope there’s no regime change in Tampa!
