The friction between former NFL linebacker Michael Oher and the Tuohy Family has been making the headlines for quite some time now. After the ex-Baltimore Ravens tackle filed a lawsuit against his former guardians for exploiting his conservatorship to make millions, things got rather nasty between the player and the Tuohys.
Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy had been the legal guardians of Michael Oher since 2004, when he was still in highschool. Their heartwarming story of forming a family with Oher and how he eventually played for their alma mater, Ole Miss, inspired Michael Lewis‘ book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.
This story was later adapted for the screen in the 2009 Hollywood blockbuster The Blind Side, which made a staggering $309 million at the box office. As per Oher’s lawsuit, the Tuohys made $225,000 from the story and about $3.75 million from the film royalties. This has been strongly denied by their side, stating that every member of the family, including Oher, only received $14,000 each.
