Cameron Dantzler, third-year cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings has officially changed his jersey number from 27 to 3. Dantzler attributed the change to his former teammate Jeff Gladney.
Gladney and Dantzler were former teammates having played for the Vikings during their rookie season. Sadly, Gladney died in a car accident on May 30, 2022. To honor his fallen friend, Dantzler decided to enter the 2022 season with a new jersey number.

Cameron Dantzler was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. On the other hand, Jeff Gladney was selected in the first round in the same year by the same team. The two youngsters formed a bond during their rookie season as both of the stars were given the opportunity to be starters in their first year in the league.
Gladney was aggressive as a rookie which was visible through his tackling and hitting patterns which were more like a safety than a cornerback. Dantzler on the other hand was a textbook CB who showed potential to be an elite athlete in the future. After the end of their rookie season, Dantzler continued as a Viking, and Gladney was released by the team.

Jeff Gladney’s NFL career regrettably ended after his release from the Vikings. He was indicted for domestic violence in August 2021 but was cleared of all charges in March 2022. After clearing his name, Gladney signed with the Arizona Cardinals on March 16, 2022. However, before he could reignite his NFL career, Gladney and his girlfriend Andrea Mercedes Palacios, died in a horrific car accident.
Cameron Dantzler is looking to honor his friend as he starts his third year with Minnesota in a new defense with new and improved coaching staff.
