The 2022 offseason has been one of the most interesting ones yet in recent times. We witnessed legendary QB Tom Brady retire and unretire within a span of 40 days, Aaron Rodgers became the highest-paid QB in the history of the NFL, Tyreek Hill also bagged the most per year salary among wide receivers and many more trades happened which shocked the entire NFL community.
However, the most enthralling news of all was the Deshaun Watson drama. Despite being accused of sexual harassment by more than 20 different women, the Cleveland Browns signed the controversial QB for a five-year, $230 million contract. And the civil case took a whole lot of twists and turns and many dirty secrets were revealed about Watson and his previous employers, the Houston Texans.
Deshaun Watson and the Browns await judge Sue L. Robinson’s decision regarding the QB’s suspension
Deshaun Watson has had a rough couple of months after he was accused of sexual misconduct by over two dozen women. However, 20 of those civil cases were settled and the Houston Texans also settled 30 cases as they were accused of enabling Watson’s behavior and providing him with massage therapists and hotel venues. The NFL is also conducting its own investigation into the allegations against the Browns QB and will decide on a suitable suspension.
The Cleveland Browns had their first open practice on Saturday in front of a near-capacity crowd at their suburban headquarters. Deshaun Watson sprinted onto the field waving his hands at the fans as there were light cheers upon his arrival. After the practice, the 26-year-old did not interact with the media. The team is in a bind as they await the decision of retired judge Sue L. Robinson. The honorable judge is determining if Watson is in violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Fans and critics are expecting the NFL to suspend Watson for more than just 3 or 4g games of the 2022 season. The NFLPA has stated that it will back the Browns QB and has asked the league officials to treat the athletes and team owners under the same set of rules. Several team owners were accused of sexual misconduct but they weren’t penalized. The league however is pushing for the maximum possible suspension of Deshaun Watson to set an example that such kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the league.
