“I see an incredible, incredible skillset” Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell likens Justin Jefferson to Cooper Kupp

Minnesota Vikings appointed former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach. It seems O’Connell has started identifying areas as to where the Vikings can improve upon immediately after taking over the role.

Among his first changes, would be the role assigned to Vikings’ wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The new head coach has stated that he would want Jefferson to emulate his former franchise WR, Cooper Kupp.

Kevin O’Connell who had a crucial role in Cooper Kupp’s major success last season said, “There was a huge role for Cooper because of his willingness to be completely solidified in every phase, both the run and the pass.”

The new Vikings HC also likened Justin Jefferson to Kupp, praising the youngster for his immense skill set.

“I see that with Justin. I see an incredible, incredible skillset, but I also see a player we can move around. We can make it hard for defences to know where he’s going to be. He doesn’t have to line up in the same spot all the time. He doesn’t have to run the same type of routes all the time. He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands,” said Kevin O’Connell.

Kupp had one of the best seasons for the Los Angeles Rams last year and led the franchise to the Super Bowl title. Although he did not win the MVP, his performances were almost as good as anyone’s in the league.

The 30- year old outshined all wideouts in 2021 and capitalized on a record-breaking season with a Super Bowl MVP award. He recorded 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns in the regular season.

Justin Jefferson will have a major role to play if the Vikings are to improve on their previous season’s result and mount a claim for a Super Bowl place this year.
