Watch: ‘Unbelievable’: Nyeem Powell, a 12-year-old footballer from Philly takes the internet by storm
Nyeem Powell
Some are born great, whereas some strive hard and work on themselves to become greats, and then there are a chosen few who are a combination of both. A young footballer from Philadelphia named Nyeem Powell has taken the internet by storm and is on his way to becoming the next big thing in American football.
There are a few reasons why he has become a popular figure online. Powell, who is only 12 years old, is literally an imposing figure at such a young age. The young gun already stands six feet tall and weighs around 340 pounds. Evidently, opponents have refused to believe on many occasions that Powell is only 12.
‘People refuse to believe that he is only 12 years old’: Nyeem’s father
Powell is regarded as the most dominating figure in Philly’s 11U football system. His father recently claimed that he gets mixed reactions from people who meet him or see him on the field. While some simply refuse to believe he is that young, some get fascinated with him.
“People don’t believe it, then they always want to take pictures with him and stuff,” Nyeem’s father has claimed. Nyeem became an internet sensation when defensive line coach Tahir Shoatz decided to post a one-minute highlight clip of a game Nyeem was a part of.
Although Tahir had the feeling that the video might gain attention, even he didn’t have the slightest idea that the young boy will become a sensation. The video, which was created by Yea Sports has gained well over 565k views on Twitter in less than a week.
Talking about the clip, Tahir claimed that he saw it coming as the Nyeem is probably the biggest 12-year-old kid in the country who is playing football. “He should have been viral. He’s probably the biggest kid in the country playing football at that age that I have seen so far, and I’ve been around football for five years,” Shoatz said.
