“We had a GOOD relationship” – Brian Flores squashes rumors of RIFT with Tua Tagovailoa, says ‘he’s got a bright future’
Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa
The Miami Dolphins had a roller-coaster season this year. They kicked off the 2021 campaign with a 1-7 losing record, which was one of the worst in the league. However, the Dolphins played diametrically opposite in the second half of the season. They won 8 of their last 9 games and ever just a win away from cementing themselves in the playoffs but sadly couldn’t.
The credit for the Dolphins turn around goes to their head coach Brian Flores and QB Tua Tagovailoa. So, when Miami fired Flores after the end of the regular season, it shocked the entire NFL world. Some rumors suggest that this action was carried out because of a rift between the coach and quarterback.
Brian Flores says it was a typical player-coach relationship with Maimi quarterback
Brian Flores has finally put an end to these faux rumors and said he and Tagovailoa had a healthy relationship. During his 3 years as the Dolphins head coach, it’s been reported that Flores and Tagovailoa were never on the same page. But, the former coach recently sat down with Chad Johnson, Omar Kelly, and Brandon Marshall for his “I Am Athlete” show and said that none of the rumors hold any water.
“I think we had a good relationship,” Flores said while talking about Tua. “It was a player-coach relationship. And I think in a relationship like that, the coach challenges the player, and often times the player challenges the coach. There was a great deal of respect between the two of us. So you hear this crazy kind of narrative that’s out there, but this is a young man who works, developed, and got better over 2 years and I think he’s got a bright future.”
Brian Flores was fired from Miami because of a sour relationship with Tua Tagovailoa
The former Miami head coach said he knows that the rumors won’t magically disappear just because he said there’s no bad blood between the two of them. But, he says he doesn’t care what the world thinks because he knows the truth. “Yeah, the world can think what they want to think. Ask Tua, you know, I think he’d say the same thing.”
During the second half of the 2021 season, Tua showed a glimpse of a guy that could be seen as a franchise quarterback for Miami. There are many reports that suggested Flores and his coaching staff didn’t show any support to Tua and that’s exactly why he was fired from the organization.
As for Brian’s future, he has filed a lawsuit against the New York Giants and the NFL for racial discrimination while hiring minority head coaches. He said he knows his future in the NFL is over but he wishes to change the old ways and set a path for the younger generations that’s free from racial profiling.
