On Monday, the Los Angeles Chargers (7-3) play conference rivals Baltimore Ravens (7-4) at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers and Ravens are meeting in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the Chargers returned to LA.
The Monday Night Football is crucial to both teams. The Ravens as well as the Chargers are strong playoff contenders from the AFC. The Baltimore Ravens’ division title hopes took life once again after receiving a major blow in the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. After the Cleveland Browns defeated the Ravens on Thursday in a snowy outfield in Ohio, the Ravens are once again on the cusp of going atop the league.
The Chargers on the other hand are on a four-game winning streak since the loss to Arizona Cardinals. Justin Herbert and his gang however had relatively less dangerous sides except for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Chargers, who are sitting second to the Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) are inching closer to the conference leaders. In the seven years since returning to the City of Angels, the Chargers have only made the playoffs twice.
The game also sets up the third Harbaugh Bowl, famously fought between brothers John and Jim Harbaugh. The much-anticipated game is the first Harbaugh battle since the famous Super Bowl in 2013 when the older Harbaugh took Ravens to a win over John’s San Francisco 49ers.

Why can the Los Angeles Chargers win?
The Los Chargers could potentially come out on top due to their currently dominant defense, particularly against the run. A strong defense, as seen in the Pittsburgh game, could significantly hinder the Ravens’ offensive strategy. Under defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, the Chargers boast the fourth-best rush defense in the league this season.
Furthermore, the Chargers who are red hot from defeating a formidable foe in the Cincinnati Bengals, can take advantage of the fragile Ravens’ defense. They have given up the sixth-most points and the sixth-highest yards per play in the league, struggling defensively to limit opposing offenses. The drawbacks of the defensive side could put pressure on their offense as well.
Why can the Baltimore Ravens win?
The Baltimore Ravens have one of the strongest quarterbacks in the league. Lamar Jackson, although faced some difficulties in getting the job done against the Steelers, is still one of the leaders of the season. He leads all quarterbacks with an impressive 0.299 EPA (Expected Points Added) per play.
He’s also tied for first in success rate at 53.1% with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Furthermore, Jackson has thrown just three interceptions this season. It is also important to keep the fact that Jackson could dominate the field as well, having racked up 584 rushing yards this season. Chargers also have some inconsistencies that the Ravens could take advantage of. They have been inconsistent in running with the ball, no RB has more than 100 rushing yards since Week 2.
Last but not least, the Ravens have the sibling upper hand. They are coached by John Harbaugh, who has won twice facing his brother. Jim has once noted that playing against his brother is kind of playing against himself. John, who’s close with Jim off the field, will be able to anticipate the plays his brother might call.
