The Kansas City Chiefs’ (9-1) hopes of a perfect season died down last week with a loss to the Buffalo Bills. After a disappointing start, the Carolina Panthers (7-3) are rolling off a momentum of straight wins to overcome last year’s total wins.
The game is a perfect synchronization of opposites. The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most successful teams in recent years, while the same can’t be said for the Panthers.
The Chiefs have captured three Super Bowl titles, boasting the most wins in the NFL with 84 and a win percentage of .771. In contrast, the Panthers have recorded just 34 victories over the same period, tying them with the Jets for the fewest wins in the league.
The Chiefs-Panthers matchup is happening for the first time since 2020. In history, Chiefs have been ahead of Panthers, winning five of their seven games. The last time the Chiefs lost to Panthers, when they the latter demolished the Chiefs 0-34. The matchup is the first-ever game between Patrick Mahomes and last year’s first overall draft pick Bryce Young.
Ahead of the game, Young noted that he holds much respect and admiration for Mahomes, via Joey Ellis of Queen City News.
Set to make his fourth straight start for the @Panthers Sunday against the @Chiefs, Bryce Young isn't expecting to out-duel Patrick Mahomes.

Why can the Kansas City Chiefs win?
Despite a recent loss, the Kansas City Chiefs are still a formidable foe. The Chiefs are atop the AFC with a first-round bye in sight. They also have a huge reason to reclaim the momentum in the season forward. The Bills (9-2) are getting closer to the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be bolstered by the return of a key player, as Isiah Pacheco will rejoin the lineup after being sidelined since Week 2 due to a broken fibula. Pacheco’s addition will make the Chiefs even more strong.
While Patrick Mahomes has not quite lived up to expectations, the Chiefs’ defense has elevated its performance this season. George Karlaftis, Chris Jones, and Tershawn Wharton have been impressive, with a combined 36 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
Why can the Carolina Panthers win?
Carolina Panthers have a monumental task ahead of them if they are going to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs. Bryce Young has to recruit the help of running game in the form of Chuba Hubbard.
Young has registered two successive wins with the franchise, effectively changing the narrative from his first start with the team. So far, Young has 820 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions while running 15 times for 71 yards and one score. The sophomore quarterback is central to the Panthers’ success on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers have a home advantage. Furthermore, Chiefs haven’t posted more than 30 points in the season. They also have not defeated a team with more than seven points on board.
It all could come down to one score, either scoring or limiting the reigning champions. The Panthers defense are no star of the season but have shown much promise than the offense. A’Shawn Robinson has 27 solo tackles with three sacks to his name so far.
