With just two weeks remaining in the 2024-25 NFL regular season, each game is of paramount importance to teams as they hope to finish on a strong note and get the best record to gain home-field advantage when the playoffs begin. For the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, this game is a precursor of things to come in the playoffs.

Both teams lead their respective divisions with a strong record, but despite their success so far, the Houston Texans have stumbled when going up against strong opponents. A win over the best team in the division and the reigning Super Bowl champions would serve as a great morale booster for them.

However, they are going up against the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that has not outscored its opponents by a significant margin but has found a way to win games. The Texans will need to be in control of the game for all four quarters, especially as the game winds down if they intend to come out of this victorious.

Why can the Houston Texans win?

The matchup between these two teams will be interesting as it will be the first regular-season meeting between these two teams since C.J. Stroud took over. The quarterback will be a competitive match to Patrick Mahomes as his chemistry with wideout Nico Collins has been phenomenal.

They have handled themselves well despite losing Stefon Diggs earlier this season. Another factor that works in Houston’s favor is its skilled defense. They rank 4th in the NFL in terms of total defense and are allowing on average 302.4 yards per game. Note that the Texans have beaten the Bills earlier this year, and Buffalo has been the only team to beat KC so far which means DeMeco Ryans should be confident heading into this week.

Why can the Kansas City Chiefs win?

The Chiefs can breathe a sigh of relief as they are getting Patrick Mahomes back after the quarterback dealt with an injury scare last week. For now, he is expected to be playing but there is a chance that Andy Reid may choose to play it safe and limit his snaps. In this case, Carson Wentz will be leading the offense.

If Mahomes plays, then the offense will be able to go toe-to-toe against the Texans, however, if Wentz plays then KC’s defense will need to step things up as it will be up to them to limit C.J. Stroud and the Texans’ offense. The hope is for Mahomes to play out the whole game and expect it to come down to the wire and for the Chiefs to win by a margin of one score.
