With a 1-1 record, Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets are set to face off against their biggest conference rivals, the New England Patriots. The AFC East rivals are scheduled for a Thursday Night Football match on September 19 in week 3 of the 2024 season.

The Jets redeemed themselves from the poor opening season loss against the San Francisco 49ers by scoring a 24-17 solid feat against the Tennessee Titans. This holds a great accomplishment in respect to the veteran quarterback since he merely played four snaps last season before tearing his Achilles injury

With time, he is gaining pace as he finished week 2’s victory with 18 out of 30 passes for 176 yards with two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, New England is standing at a similar position as them with a 1-1 record. The difference is a losing season may compromise the Jets’ head coach and Rodgers’ future in the team, but the Patriots’ head coach Jerod Mayo, and quarterback Jacoby Brissett wouldn’t be subject to such scrutiny since it’s their debut season in their respective position.

Why can the Jets win the game?

The Jets are standing in a strong position right now after the solid road win against the Titans. Although it wasn’t an entirely dominating game, the team proved their capability in the second half when they only allowed the opponents to score 7 points. Compared to the Patriots, the Jets have strong offensive weapons in the team, and if they use their strategy to keep their opponents out of the end zone.

Jets’ defense is known as the seventh-best in red-zone scoring percentage, this means they can aim for a field goal or turnover in the red zone.

Why can the Patriots win the game?

Even though the Patriots’ running game hasn’t been up to mark, the defense is highly effective at restricting the opponents’ rushing attack. In fact, they have already been ranked the second in the NFL for allowing their opponents barely 58 yards per game and by allowing only 3.3 yards per carry, they are ranked third.

New England can strategize by targeting the Jets’ Hall since his performance has been adequate so far but not the standard he set for himself a year ago. If they present a strong play of the defensive front seven, they could bend the match in their favor.
