In NFL Week 6, one of the major storylines is young quarterback Drake Maye about to make his first official start. The decision was made to hand over the keys to the rookie after underwhelming play from veteran Jacoby Brissett in their first five games. Going up against CJ Stroud in the New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans game should be the first real test for 2024’s third overall pick.
He will go up against a stud Texans defense who loves to blitz. Blitzing a rookie quarterback is the perfect way to upset his rhythm and force throws. Those forced throws can result in turnovers, which can help the Texans run away with a relatively easy win. Unless head coach Jerod Mayo and his staff turn up the heat.
The Houston Texans have a commanding 4-1 record, but the Minnesota Vikings showed that a good defense can stop them. Mayo will be hoping his New England Patriots defense will be up to the task as they look to get back into the winning column and hope it will turn their season around. This Patriots vs. Texans should be a battle, even if the odds are against the six-time Super Bowl champions.

Why can the New England Patriots win?
If they can utilize their unpredictability behind Drake Maye. Many feel the team lacks true leaders and is struggling to make a mark. But Jerod Mayo can be the leader who can motivate the team to spring a surprise. That surprise can be in the form of their opponents not having a clue how Maye will play and what offensive schemes the Patriots will run.
If they do manage to take a lead, their defense, who is playing with a chip on their shoulders, can put pressure on the Texans. Expect the likes of Christian Gonzalez to return to his last season form. If his efforts can rile his teammates up, an upset at home could be possible.
Why can the Houston Texans win?
The Houston Texans have some injuries on offense to deal with. Generally, the loss of a leading receiver such as Nico Collins will be a major setback. But the Texans have a plethora of wealth in that position. Expect Stefon Diggs to turn the dial up and produce a big game. If the Patriots decide to double him, Tank Dell will probably run circles around the others.
Then there is the defense. Head coach DeMeco Ryans loves the blitz, and with a rookie QB on the opposite side, expect his coaches to throw the kitchen sink at him. Their secondary may be banged up, but the play from the defensive front alone should be enough to help the team coast to a win.
