Week 7 of the NFL 2023 season will commence this Thursday. It has already proved to be a fantastic season with a lot of interesting storylines coming up. The first game of week 7 is a clash between the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The game will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 19.

Both these teams are eyeing for a playoff spot this season. The Saints don’t have Super Bowl aspirations but have done well so far this season. They have won three games through six weeks and have a formidable defense. The team signed QB Derek Carr from the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason.

The Jaguars, on the other hand, have won four games so far. They are expected to make a deep playoff run this season after going to the Divisional Round last year.

The Saints have been a good defensive team, holding five of their six opponents to 20 or fewer points. It will be a bit tough to replicate that against a potent Jaguars offense led by star QB Trevor Lawrence. The Jags are coming into the game on the back of three consecutive wins. They have poured in more than 20 points in each of those wins, so it will be a fascinating matchup between these two teams.

New Orleans Saints vs Jacksonville Jaguars Predicted Lineup

The New Orleans Saints are expected to start QB Derek Carr as they have done so far this season. Carr was limited on Monday’s practice due to a right shoulder/chest injury. WR Chris Olave was also limited on Monday but is expected to play the game against the Jaguars. The Saints’ TE Juwan Johnson did not participate in practice due to a calf injury and his availability for the game against the Jaguars is questionable. Veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu and DE Cameron Jordan will be expected to suit up against Jacksonville.

For the Jacksonville Jaguars, their biggest concern will be the knee of QB Trevor Lawrence. He suffered a knee injury during the Jaguars’ 37-20 win against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. His status for the Thursday Night game is questionable.

The team, however, is optimistic about his chances of playing despite the injury. Backup QB C.J. Beathard will replace Lawrence if he doesn’t play. WR Zay Jones did not participate in practice on Monday and Tuesday due to a knee injury and his status is unspecified at the moment.

NFL Odds and Betting Lines for New Orleans Saints vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The odds shifted toward the New Orleans Saints after Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence was listed DNP during Monday’s practice. Before that, the Jaguars were slight favorites. According to NFL Odds, the Saints are now 3-point favorites to win the game.

Why the New Orleans Saints can win?

Recent history suggests that the New Orleans Saints will dominate this matchup as they have won their last four games and are 5-2 all-time. They have scored at least 38 points in their last two matchups at the Superdome and are 3-0 against the Jags.

QB Derek Carr had his most productive passing game last week since 2021 and Chris Olave has started the season with a bang, tallying a couple of 100-yard games and falling just short of doing so for the third time last week.

Their defense is also a handful with superstars like DE Cameron Jordan and Safety Tyrann Mathieu. They shut out the New England Patriots in week 5 and poured in 34 points of their own. Mathieu recorded a pick-6 against the Patriots.

Why the Jacksonville Jaguars can win?

Jacksonville Jaguars’ success depends on the health of their star QB Trevor Lawrence. He suffered a knee injury in their last game and did not participate in practice on Monday. They are yet to lose an away game this season and are a couple of games above .500 because of that. Travis Etienne Jr. scored twice last week against the Indianapolis Colts, giving him five rushing touchdowns for the season.

The Jaguars will have a chance of winning as long as Lawrence plays. Back up QB C.J. Beathard hasn’t played a lot this season and the Saints will be comfortable playing against the Jaguars’ second-string QB.
