Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys will travel to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday for week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams desperately need a win to get back in the hunt for postseason football.

In week 7, the 49ers suffered their fourth loss of the season during their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Kyle Shanahan saw quarterback Brock Purdy throw three interceptions and lost the $30 million a year man Brandon Aiyuk for the rest of the year.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, had the week off to cool down and regroup following their 47-9 humiliation in week 6 at the hands of the Lions. Prescott threw two and almost a third pick, not before Lions QB Jared Goff dissected the Cowboys’ defense for 3 TDs, recording a quarterback rating of 153.75 in the process.

Look in the mirror. Go watch these six games over the bye week. Take a few days off. Reset. And be ready when we get back in that building to refocus.

Both the 49ers and the Cowboys are seeing this fixture as their stepping stone to build for the rest of the campaign. However, there are several key personnel missing from both rosters.

Apart from Aiyuk, they will miss Christian McCaffrey, Dre Greenlaw, and Talona Hufanga, and there’s also doubt about the availability of Deebo Samuel.

As for the Cowboys, Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland, and Brandin Cooks are the most notable misses. Additionally, there’s doubt about star kicker Brandon Aubrey, as he has been busy with jury duty in the last few days.

Why the San Francisco 49ers can win?

Even though the bookmakers are favoring the 49ers, their success will depend upon how Brock Purdy performs in the game. Purdy received an earful from Shanahan following their loss to the Chiefs. It should make some impact on his gameplay.

I’ve obviously got to watch the film and stuff, but my instant reaction is I’ve got to play better.

Brock Purdy said this week

However, without targets like Aiyuk, Jennings, and Mason being doubtful, Purdy may find it hard to break the stingy Cowboys’ defensive line.

Why the Cowboys can win?

Dak Prescott is in a similar situation as Purdy. In a recent interview, the 31-year-old described his first six games as average at best, which is not good enough. However, Prescott usually plays his best football after the bye week so the Cowboys can depend on him to lead them to victory.

The Cowboys and the 49ers are perennial enemies, and their fanbases hate each other. Following the 49ers win last season, the all-time record stands at 20-19-1 in favor of the Bay Area franchise.
