Joe Flacco and the Indianapolis Colts travel to US Bank Stadium on Sunday, November 3, to face the Minnesota Vikings. This will be the two teams’ first meeting since the historic 33-point Vikings comeback in 2022.

Only two players from that monumental game, who scored two of the five touchdowns, remain in the Vikings squad: Justin Jefferson and C.J. Ham. Quarterback Kirk Cousins, who led the comeback, is now in Atlanta.

After multiple quarterback changes, the Vikings settled on Sam Darnold. He has since won five games with the Twin City franchise, but two back-to-back losses (Lions and Rams) pushed them back to the second spot in the NFC North.

The Colts themselves witnessed a massive overhaul, primarily in the quarterback spot, but one aspect remains the same. Last time they were led by veteran Matt Ryan, and on Sunday, 39-year-old Joe Flacco will be the flagbearer for the Indi team.

Flacco’s inclusion as the starter raised a lot of eyebrows as it came at the expense of benching second-year QB Anthony Richardson. The 2023 first-round pick faced much heat from all corners after he tapped out from their Week 8 loss to the Texans due to exhaustion.

Flacco has played three times against the Vikings when he was in Baltimore. He has a 1-2 record—83 completions for 816 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions with a passer rating of 85.9.

Why the Vikings can win?

The Minnesota Vikings are 17th (213.6) and 22nd (111.4) in average passing and rushing yards but are the 7th best scoring and the red zone offense, finishing off 65% of the chances they create. The majority of the credit goes to the duo of Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson.

Darnold has thrown 1,610 yards (67% completion rate) for 14 touchdowns and five interceptions, while Jefferson has 41 catches for 646 yards and five touchdowns. Running backs Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler combine for 900+ yards (rushing and receiving) and three touchdowns.

Why the Colts can win?

The Colts’ best bet at upsetting the odds lies in the hands of Joe Flacco. In Richardson’s absence, he has completed 716 yards for seven touchdowns and just one interception. Running back Jonathan Taylor has 454 yards and five touchdowns, while Alec Pierce is their leading receiver with 16 catches for 394 yards and three touchdowns. The Colts are 7-1-0 against the spread this season.
