What does it mean for Aaron Rodgers now that he’s lost his ‘best weapon’ in Davante Adams

What does it mean for Aaron Rodgers now that he’s lost his ‘best weapon’ in Davante Adams

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams

Davante Adams made a blockbuster move to the already loaded AFC West as he joined the Las Vegas Raiders. With Adams gone, we can only wonder what lies ahead for Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers.

In his time with Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams had 669 receptions for 8121 yards and 73 touchdowns. Those numbers helped Adams make 5 pro bowls, all consecutively along with 2 first-team all-pro nods, also consecutively.

While it may have taken a little while, Adams broke out in Green Bay and proved himself to be Aaron Rodgers’ #1 target and most trusted receiver. Now, Rodgers has to deal with playing without him for the first time since 2014, and that is sure to be quite the task.

Who will become Aaron Rodgers’ top target in 2022

With the Packers receiving the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft, it’s very likely that they will take a receiver with that pick this year. Their current receiving room consists of Randall Cobb, Allan Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling(for now, at least), they’ll be wanting to improve it.

Luckily, 2022 has some solid receivers to choose from. Names like Chris Olave, Jameson Williams, Garrett Wilson and Drake London stand out on draft boards however, whether or not they’ll be available at 22 is a different problem.

In terms of free agency, there are still players available like Julio Jones, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry. Of course, going after OBJ seems unlikely especially considering he would be someone available only around the playoffs. However, Jones and Landry could be viable options although the price might be a factor but they certainly will be cheaper than what Adams wanted.

How does Aaron Rodgers feel about the trade

Aaron Rodgers reportedly knew about the trade while negotiating his new contract with the Packers. That could be a factor in why he wanted so much money. If he knew Adams was going then perhaps that’s an incentive to get as much money as possible.

Another thing that it could mean is that he’s fine with the Packers’ plans for 2022 at least. They may have discussed how they would try to replace him and make sure they remain as competitive as possible because Rodgers himself made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuild.

As of now, we’ll have to see how the Packers plan to replace such a large piece of their offense but it certainly isn’t impossible. And with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, they are sure to remain competitive in the NFC. Whether or not they can turn it into a Super Bowl? Only time will tell.
