It’s officially Draft month! We’re less than a month away from the much-anticipated 2023 NFL Draft. We’ve evaluated all the top QB prospects in the upcoming draft and it’s now time to analyze other position players. In this article, we’ll take a look at the Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman prospect Jalen Carter‘s draft stock.
Jalen Carter is a 6’3″ 310 pounds defensive tackle who played college football in Georgia for 3 years and helped them win the national championship 2 times. During his successful stint with the Bulldogs, he registered six sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 83 total tackles. He is big, physical, and predominantly a great run defender. He still has some work to do when it comes to rushing the quarterback but he has the potential to become one of the greats in the NFL.
His physical attributes make him one of the best prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft in any position but the defensive lineman’s off-the-field field activities have plummeted his draft stocks badly.

Jalen Carter is considered to be one of the best defensive line prospects to come out of college in recent years. But his off-field activities and “character issues” raises some concerns among the NFL franchises.
“With Carter, there are some character issues,” said ESPN senior writer Todd McShay about Carter. “Does he get along with everybody? What’s he like to deal with in the locker room, those sorts of issues” McShay said on ESPN. “I know it’s early in the process, but I’m forewarning everybody out there. Carter is going to be a hot-button name when we talk about some of the intangible aspects of it.
McShay received massive backlash for diminishing Carter’s reputation with his claims but as it turned out Carter did have some legal troubles that came to light in recent times. He had to leave the NFL Combine in a hurry since there was an arrest warrant out for him in Georgia over a drunk-and-drive incident that resulted in the death of 2 people. Carter wasn’t responsible for the deaths but during the incident, he was allegedly racing the other vehicle which ended in a car crash.
In addition, a few weeks after the arrest warrant, an old video of him being warned by a cop for driving over the allotted speed limit resurfaced which led to Carter receiving more backlash.
Due to his legal troubles in recent times and the alleged “character issues,” the Georgia Bulldogs defensive line prospect will certainly affect his draft stock. But due to his potential Carter will still possibly be drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
