Johnny Manziel was one of the most highly touted players coming out of college football in the last few decades. After a successful stint with the Texas A&M Aggies, Manziel was drafted in the first-round (22nd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Many people expected Manziel to quickly scratch the surface of his sky-high potential and become of the best quarterbacks in the league’s history.

In fact, the renowned sports analyst Skip Bayless infamously claimed that Manziel would be “a bigger star in Cleveland” than LeBron James. The talented QB Johnny ‘Money’ Manziel was expected to be the franchise savior of the Browns, but things didn’t work well for him once he entered the league.

Manziel could not live up to his hype due to his off-field issues. In 2018, Manziel opened up about his struggles with substance abuse and depression. He was out of the NFL after playing for just two seasons. He last played a snap in the NFL back in 2015. The 30-year-old quarterback is considered to be one of the biggest busts of all time.

Despite being a first-round talent, the six-foot quarterback only played two seasons in the league. In this article, we’ll take a look at what the former Browns’ QB is doing now.

Johnny Manziel is playing in different football leagues

Back in 2022, the former Browns QB Johnny Manziel told ESPN that he has come to terms with his NFL career, which ended back in 2015 after a massive hype.

However, the talented QB is playing in different football leagues since 2018. He played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Furthermore, he signed a contract with the Memphis Express to play in the Alliance of American Football the following year.

Manziel also played in the Fan Controlled Football (FCF) league in the last two years. He played for the Zappers and could potentially rejoin them in 2023 for his third season in the league.
