The American business tycoon Stan Kroenke owns the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams. Kroenke, with the help of Georgia Frontiere, moved the Los Angeles Rams from Anaheim to St. Louis, acquiring a 30% share of the team. Later on in 2010, he exercised his “right of first refusal” clause and purchased the remaining shares to become the owner of the franchise, which he later transferred to his wife, Ann Walton Kroenke.

However, at the start of 2015, Kroenke hinted at moving back to Los Angeles as he announced a 70,000-seat NFL stadium near Inglewood, California, in the suburbs of LA. But the local St. Louis government was against the relocation and filed a counterargument, which did not matter eventually.

On January 12, 2016, the NFL Committee approved Kroneke’s proposal. Meanwhile, St. Louis County filed a lawsuit to stop the move from happening. Kroenke argued that it was not profitable for an NFL franchise to stay in St. Louis.

In 2021, the two parties finally agreed to an out-of-court $790 million settlement to end the lawsuit. However, Kroenke had to pay only $571 million, which was split up between the other 32 NFL franchises. They each had to pay $7.5 million from their revenue-sharing payment.

The next season, in 2022, the Rams won the Super Bowl, beating the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 75-year-old Stan Kroenke has always been very shrewd and forward-thinking when it comes to expanding his business. He began his life in a small neighborhood in Missouri and built an empire.

Besides marrying the daughter of Walmart’s co-founder, James Walton Kroenke invested in real estate. Later on, he diversified his interests by turning his gaze toward sports. He owns multiple sports franchises in several leagues.

Denver Nuggets (NBA)

Stan Kroenke bought the NBA team, the Denver Nuggets, in 2000. It was a hard-fought battle to gain ownership of the franchise. It had to be shifted to his son and Walmart heirs, Bill and Nancy Laurie, and later on to Donald Sturm.

As luck would have it, the Nuggets won their first-ever NBA title today as they beat the Miami Heat 4-1.

Colorado Avalanche (NHL)

The Colorado Avalanche was part of the same deal that saw Stan Kroeke get the Nuggets ownership. It was a massive steal, as the Rapids were building something special but needed backing, which they got.

They, too, tasted victory as they lifted the Stanley Cup in 2022 after a 21-year gap.

Colorado Mammoths (Lacrosse)

Kroenke added another Colorado-based franchise, this time the lacrosse team Colorado Mammoths. They compete in the National Lacrosse League. The Mammoths share their stadium with both the Nuggets and the Avalanche.

Colorado Rapids (MLS)

Stan Kroenke purchased the Major League Soccer Club Colorado Rapids in 2004. Under his ownership, the Rapids won their first and only MLS Cup in 2010.

Arsenal FC (English Premier League)

Kroenke announced in 2009 that he would be buying a minority stake in the London-based English Premier League soccer team Arsenal FC. Fast forward to 2011, when he had the majority shares in the club and the women’s team. In 2018, he became the owner of Arsenal FC.

Unlike his recent success in other franchises, Arsenal’s men’s team has so far not achieved anything significant. They did reach the Europ League final in 2019, only to lose to their neighbors. Moreover, in 2021, a rumored participation in the UEFA Super League angered the fans, who have since wanted him out.

The women’s team, however, has done much better, winning two FA WSL and two Women’s League Cups.

E-sports

Kroenke, besides his vast sporting fraternity, owns two e-sports teams based in Los Angeles. The Overwatch squad, Los Angeles Gladiators, and the Call of Duty franchise, Los Angeles Gurillas, compete in the Call of Duty League.

Besides these two he recently took over the Valorant team The Guard.

His success with various franchises hasn’t gone unnoticed, and he might even look to buy a few others as well. The obvious choice will be the MLB side, the Colorado Rockies. He might inject some Kroenke charisma to stop their dry spell.
