Linebackers are the cornerstone of the NFL defenses. A middle linebacker is also known as the quarterback of the defensive unit, that’s how important that position is. To be a linebacker, a player must have the body muscle to cover the tight ends and they must be fast enough to keep up with the wide receivers and the running backs.

Linebackers play sideline and they spend most of the time communicating with the other defensive players since they are in the best position to call defensive plays.

Due to the versatility of the position, there are very few elite linebackers in the league like Bobby Wagner (Seahawks), Devin White (Bucs), and Fred Warner (49ers). But every team will have a chance in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft to select a talented LB prospect and groom them to be one of the best in the game.

There are plenty of talented linebackers in the 2023 Draft class including Jack Campbell, Drew Sanders, and Daiyan Henley but the Clemson LB Trenton Simpson stands tall among them.

Trenton Simpson is a former five-star recruit out of North Carolina. He was the number one prospect from his state and the 26th overall prospect in the entire nation in the 2020 recruiting class.

Simpson played collegiate ball at Clemson. During his 3 year stint with the Tigers, Simpson played 33 games and registered 13 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. Furthermore, the 6’3″ linebacker played all over the field at Clemson. It didn’t matter if he lined up at Mike, Will, Nickel, or Edge, he always gave his 100% and handled all the responsibilities remarkably.

He was used as a blitz backer a lot in the Clemson defense and was also used as a QB spy on many occasions. His 4.43 speed will come in very handy on Sundays when he has to cover sideline to sideline in the NFL. He is physical, aggressive, and good in the open field tackling but the LB could sometimes face trouble in getting off of blocks. Nevertheless, the ceiling and potential are certainly there for him to become one of the best linebackers from this draft class.

In brief, the Clemson product Trenton Simpson is projected to go in the late first round or in the early second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He is expected to be the first linebacker to be taken off the board.
