The AFC North divisional champions Baltimore Ravens host their rivals Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the NFL postseason 2024-25. The Ravens, who won back-to-back titles for the first time since 2019, will face the Steelers at their home field, M&T Bank Stadium.
The Steelers and Ravens are set to meet for the third time this season, having split the regular season with one win each. The divisional rivals, however, are riding on two different momentums into the postseason. Ravens, headlined by MVP candidates Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, are blazing into the playoffs with a four win stretch. On the other hand, the Steelers barely pass for a postseason team – having lost all four of their last matchups including a defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.
The current losing streak is not the only streak they will look forward to snap on coming Saturday. The Steelers, who haven’t had a losing season since 2004, haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season.
Since losing the AFC Championship Game in 2016 to the New England Patriots, the Steelers have lost four more games to build a five game losing streak in the postseason. They lost wild card playoffs in 2020, 2021, 2023 to the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills respectively.
On the other hand, the Baltimore Ravens are looking to avenge their AFC Championship loss last year to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens have been consistent in recent years, missing out on only one postseason. Lamar Jackson, who’s one of the most respected quarterbacks in recent history, would do anything to add his first Lombardi on the Ravens’ shelf.

Why would the Pittsburgh Steelers win?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are not everyone’s ballot to win this particular race. However, they have defeated the Ravens once this season – meaning that they could do it if they could be done away with the flaws. The Steelers have experienced coaching personnel and a veteran quarterback who has been to the post season multiple times which includes a Super Bowl win.
The Steelers are not without offensive failures. The Eagles started to uncover those in Week 15 and it unfurled naturally in the last game against the Cincinnati Bengals. They haven’t been able to post effective offensive showcases either. However, as Andrew Vasquez of Steelers Wire noted that the Steelers do know how to defeat the Ravens.
In order to do so, they’ll turn to Russell Wilson and Najee Harris to aid the offensive front. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson leads the Pittsburgh offense, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 games, with a 95.6 passer rating. He has also rushed 43 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns. On the other hand, running back Najee Harris has been a key playmaker, recording 1,043 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 263 carries (4.0 average) across 17 games.
