The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers kicked off the 2024 season with the NFL’s first-ever fixture in Brazil back in September and now the two teams will play each other on Sunday. The kickoff is set at 4:30 pm at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Jordan Love and the Packers had one of the toughest schedules in the league but still won 11 games. However, their season ended in a disappointing loss against divisional rivals, the Chicago Bears. A late Cairo Santos field goal stopped the Packers from lodging 12 wins.

The win would have mattered little, as the top two teams in the division, the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, finished with 15 and 14 wins.

On the other hand, the Eagles won 14 games despite starting quarterback Jalen Hurts missing the final two and a half games due to a concussion in week 16. Kenny Pickett lasted only four quarters before picking up a rib injury. The quarterback responsibility fell on sixth-round pick Tanner McKee, who threw a combined four touchdowns against the Cowboys and Giants to lead the Eagles to the NFC second seed.

The Eagles and Packers faced each other a total of 47 times since the first meeting back in 1933. Matt Eberflus’ Packers lead the series with a 28-19-0 record. However, the Eagles won the previous two fixtures, and the last Packers victory came in December 2020.

Why the Green Bay Packers can win?

The Packers won only one game against their divisional opponents and ended the campaign with two defeats, slipping to seventh in the playoffs. Quarterback Jordan Love threw 268 completions from 425 attempts for 3389 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Running back Josh Jacobs in his first season in Green Bay ended with an impressive 301 carries for 1329 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Jayden Reed led the team with 55 receptions from 75 targets for 857 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.

The Packers ended the season as the fifth-best rushing offense, racking up an average of 146.8 yards per game and 23 touchdowns and scoring an average of 27.1 points per game.

Why the Philadelphia Eagles can win?

There’s massive doubt whether Jalen Hurts can start against the Packers. He is still in concussion protocol and must clear several stages so that an independent physician can give him the green signal to play on Sunday. Before picking the concussion, Hurts contributed 248 completions from 361 attempts for 2903 yards and 18 passing touchdowns along with 150 carries for 630 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.

The reason Hurts didn’t cross the 3000 passing yards mark is that the Eagles switched their play style after adding Saquon Barkley to the team. Barkley went off during his first year with the NFC East team. He carried the ball 345 times for 2005 rushing yards and scored 13 touchdowns. Wide receiver AJ Brown also suffered due to the style change but still caught 67 passes for 1079 yards and added 7 touchdowns.

Nick Sirianni’s Eagles ended the year as the second-best rushing offense behind the Ravens. They averaged 179.9 yards per game and scored a total of 29 rushing touchdowns on the ground. Furthermore, they are the 10th-best third-down offense with a completion percentage of 41.7%.
