The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winners of the NFC South host the Washington Commanders in the fifth Wild Card match of the 2024 postseason. The Buccaneers look forward to rewrite last season’s depressing loss in the Divisional playoffs to the Detroit Lions at the Ford Field.

The Washington Commanders had one of their worst performances last year before their magical fairytale transformation happened this year. The Commanders’ new management brought in Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury who were able to develop Jayden Daniels and lead the team into the playoffs.

Why could the Bucs win?

The Buccaneers have emerged as one of the NFL’s top offensive teams, anchored by a formidable running game. Mayfield has benefited from the emergence of several reliable targets beyond Mike Evans. Rookie Jalen McMillan, along with tight ends Cade Otton, Payne Durham, and fellow rookie Devin Culp, have all developed into strong complementary options in Chris Godwin’s absence.

Additionally, the Buccaneers’ run game remains one of their greatest strengths. Bucky Irving has surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, White has delivered an impressive season under the radar, and Sean Tucker consistently performs well when given opportunities.

According to ESPN, the belief that their success stems solely from playing in a weak division has been disproven. Many believe that the Bucs aren’t much of a threat coming into the current season.

ESPN further noted that, while the Buccaneers’ defense has slightly declined compared to last season, their offense has improved significantly, ranking among the league’s top five. Highlighting last season’s playoff win over the Eagles, ESPN emphasized there is no reason to doubt the Buccaneers’ potential as a dangerous contender in the postseason.

Why could the Commanders win?

Jayden Daniels has lived up to expectations for the Commanders. In his rookie season, he led the team to the playoffs, earned a Pro Bowl selection, and is the clear frontrunner for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He recorded 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions while also leading Washington in rushing with 891 yards and six touchdowns.

McLaurin remains one of the NFL’s most dependable and dynamic receivers. He has quietly achieved four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and fell just 81 yards short of the milestone set in his rookie year.

The Bucs vs. Commanders game at the Raymond James Stadium features two teams whose defense hasn’t been very great this season. The test at the Bucs’ ground will be to test whose blitz succeeds in ripping through the cracks – predicting an offensive thriller.
