American Hockey League player Mathieu Olivier soaked in blood after on-ice violence

An American Hockey League (AHL) game was nothing less than an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fight, which came to a bloody end. In an ice hockey match on Friday night, two players – Mathieu Olivier and Kurtis Gabriel were involved in a violent brawl, resulting in one of the most shocking images of the weekend.
The bloody scene took place during the Rockford IceHogs’ game against the Milwaukee Admirals in Illinois, when Olivier exchanged punches with Gabriel in the first period. The two rivals didn’t stop here as they went on to take off their gloves, grabbed each other and started throwing punches as if they were actually seeking each other’s blood.
The most bizarre thing about this entire unfortunate episode is all this was taking place right before the eyes of referees and teammates. For a minute, the players hit each other until Olivier got the upper hand and caused a cut on Gabriel’s face. However, the latter kept punching at his ‘opponents’.
Reacting to this, the referees did break up the fight, but it was too late and the player’s jersey and helmet were soaked with blood, although the injuries were not serious. Talking about the result of the game, Gabriel was able to get the last laugh on Olivier as the IceHogs ended up winning the game, 4-3, in a shootout.
