“Another one inked” – Hobey Baker finalist Ben Meyers signs with Colorado Avalanche

Ben Meyers
The free player, Ben Meyers signed a 2-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday through the 2022-2023 season. Financial terms are still not disclosed by the team for Meyers, who is the finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top men’s player in NCAA ice hockey in 2022. The award is given annually to the best player in men’s Division I Hockey.
He led the University of Minnesota with 41 points, 17 goals and 24 assists, and 5 game-winning goals in 34 games. The season ended with a 5-1 loss to Minnesota State on April 7th in the NCAA Frozen Four Semi-Finale game in Boston. Meyers was Minnesota’s captain this season, as a free agent. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said,
“Free player, right?” “Really good player. I watched him play a little bit. I don’t know him real well, but (he’s a) centerman. You can’t have enough of them.”
Jared Bednar signs up Ben Meyers

Canadian coach and former player, Jared Bednar said that he wanted to sign up Meyers by the end of the season. And guess his wish came true on Wednesday as the young Hobey Baker finalist was added to the Avalanche lineup. Meyers was given the title of the Big Ten Player of the Year after scoring team-leading totals in both goals and points.
In 102 games with Minnesota, Meyers had 95 points, with at least 1 point in 24 of 34 games this season including 13 multipoint games. Meyers had 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 games for the United States at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. As noted on nhl.com, the Canadian coach Jared Bednar said,
“Hard-working guy,” “Two-hundred foot guy that’s trusted in all situations for a real good college team. He’s played in big situations; power play, penalty kill, 5-on-5, shutdown roles. He’s produced offense. He’s got a good motor and a good work ethic, so we’re excited to see him come in and get him in the lineup.”
