“Hockey is an essential part of Canadian experience” – Sabres, Maple Leafs donates for Heritage Classic legacy
Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs
The Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and National Hockey League (NHL) will donate to Hockey 4 Youth as a legacy to the 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. This will help expand their youth hockey programming into Hamilton, Ontario.
Hockey 4 Youth provides free on-ice and off-ice T.E.A.C.H. (Technology, Entrepreneurship, Arts, Community Giving, and Healthy Active Living) life skills programming, using hockey to welcome new Canadians. This organisation was founded in 2015 by Moezine Hasham and has so far worked with more than 500 newcomers, providing a safe and inclusive environment for teens of all genders. Also, they have supported youth from 32 different countries of origin including Ethiopia, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Syria, and Vietnam as well.
“We are very excited to join forces with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the National Hockey League in support of Hockey 4 Youth’s expansion into Hamilton,” said Rich Jureller, President of the Buffalo Sabres Foundation. “Their proven program will have a tremendous impact on many deserving youths in Hamilton and we are very proud to support their efforts as part of the Legacy initiative for the 2022 NHL Heritage Classic.”
“Collaboration of Hockey 4 Youth, NHL and Sabres Foundation to increase hockey access in Hamilton”
The Hockey 4 Youth currently runs programs in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. This donation will help the organization expand its programming into Hamilton for the first time.
“Hockey is an essential part of the ‘Canadian experience'” said Tanya Mruck, Executive Director, MLSE Foundation. “We know that providing equitable access to sport leads to success and opportunity off the rink for youth and their communities. By collaborating with Hockey 4 Youth, the National Hockey League and Buffalo Sabres Foundation to increase access to hockey for diverse communities in Hamilton, we are empowering the next generation to use sport to recognize and reach their potential.”
