“No words for this…just ridiculous” – Hurricanes’ Jesperi Kotkaneimi suffers a ‘ridiculous’ hit by Lars Eller

In the closing seconds of Monday’s 6-1 loss, Washington Capitals center Lars Eller hit on Carolina’s forward Jesperi Kotkaneimi sending the latter crashing into the ice. The Carolina Hurricanes are very sour on this matter right now. The young player Jesperi couldn’t put strength on his injured leg as he made his way back to the benches.

Jesperi took a high hit from Lars Eller near the end of the blowout victory. Jesperi circled towards the half-wall in the offensive zone when he took the hit from Eller, who was given a 2 min penalty on the play with just 1.8 seconds left.

Jesperi stumbled back to the bench as he couldn’t put much strength into his injured foot. Caroline coach Rod Brind’Armour said that it “doesn’t look good.”

The Hurricanes are quite upset with this incident as it might lead to taking out Jesperi from the upcoming games for a stretch of time. Especially as it’s only a month left till the playoff.

“I don’t know what to say,” Carolina forward Martin Necas mentioned. “For me, that’s just so stupid. I don’t know even who hit him, but whoever it was, it’s a 6-1 game, one second left, and (Eller) does that. He tries to be a hero or whatever. I don’t know. I have no words for that. It’s just ridiculous.”

Although most of the matchups for this season were pitted against Hurricanes and Capitals, this game surely did put the Hurricanes with a sour taste in their mouth. From the very beginning, both of the teams had clashes which lead to a few post-whistle scrums.

“I don’t know how bad, but he’s definitely going to be out,” Brind’Amour said. “The game was over. Let’s just get it over with. Two seconds left. I don’t like it. But nothing you can do about it.”

Aside from this the Capitals took off their very first victory of this season. Carolina scored the first 2 goals in the first 8 minutes, ending the game with four goals, gaining a dominating victory in Washington.
