Mark Stone was picked the 178th overall in the 6th round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. After his debut in the major junior leagues with the Brandon Wheat Kings, he recorded 39 points with 17 goals and 22 assists in 56 games, tying 12th in the Western Hockey League rookie scoring. During the 2009 playoffs, he added 4 points of 1 goal and 3 assists in 12 games.

Mark was ranked in the Top 50 prospects for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft due to his progress with the puck. In September 2010, he participated in the NHL training camp. His performance earned him a spot on the WHL East First All-Star team at the end of the year, after scoring 106 points in 71 games with37 goals and 71 assists.  Mark ended his junior career by being named the winner of the Brad Hornung Trophy after finishing as the 2nd leading scorer in the WHL.

On April 20, 2012, he joined the Ottawa Senators and made his debut with them on April 21 against the New York Rangers. Though homemade his regular-season debut on March 6, 2013, against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mark scored his first NHL goal against Carey Price of the Montreal Canadians. On April 23, 2015, Mark Stone was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy, and later signed a 3-year contract extension with the Senators with $3.5 million. Later he got injured by Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2015-16 season.

Again in the 2017-18 season, he missed a couple of matches due to his injuries but succeeded to score 62 points in 58 games. After his contract ended with the Senators he couldn’t come to terms with his new contract and was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights by the Ottawa Senators in 2019.  He was named the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league’s best defensive forward on April 2019. In 2021 he was named the captain of the Vegas team after a careful evaluation of his performance.
