2022 IIHF World Junior Championship schedule
Finally, the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship starts August 9th – 20th at Rogers Place in Edmonton. For the US, NHL Network will be covering the games live and TSN and RDS will broadcast in Canada. The tournament was originally scheduled for December 26 – January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
But due to the increase in COVID-19, the game was postponed on December 29, four days after it began. Since the postponement happened, all the players eligible for the December 26th game will be there for the rescheduled game now, regardless of whether they turning 20 or not. Though the results and statistics from the previous games will not be counted.
The 2022 WJC game plan
In the previous championship game, the US won the 2021 WJC as they defeated Canada, while it was Canada that won five consecutive times, from 2005-09 respectively. 10 teams will be participating in the upcoming tournament. Latvia will be added in place of Russia, as per nhl.com.
The top 4 teams from each group will be advancing to the quarterfinals, beginning on August 17, the semi-finals on August 19, while the championship and third-place games will be held on August 20. No relegation rounds will be there, and these 10 teams will once again represent in the 2023 WJC. The 2023 Championship games will start on December 26 – January 5 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick.
