NY Rangers defenceman Adam Fox talks about how their lack of support failed to live up to Igor Shesterkin’s effort against NY Devils in Game 7. The Devils chocked the Rangers 4-0 advancing to the 2nd-round playoff against Carolina Hurricanes.
Throughout the game, there have been several chances for the Rangers to capitalize but failed to do so. A visibly frustrated Shesterkin skated past the Rangers’ bench during 2nd period only to scream at his teammates asking them to “Wake the f**k up!”.
Now looking back at their 1st-round playoff series, Adam Fox talks about his only regret of not capitalizing and supporting Igor Shesterkin to the best of their abilities. Since his debut in the 2019-20 season, Shesterkin has been struggling to keep the team afloat.

During Game 7 on Monday night at Prudential Center, Rangers star goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped 20 out of 23 shots with a series total being 189 on 203 shots. It’s no doubt that Shesterkin worked ten times harder, bringing out his mindblowing performance on the night, as Rangers continuously failed to clear the puck from their zone.
Adam Fox stated, “I feel bad” for letting Shesterkin down as he continued to battle all series for the team yet they only delivered disappointing results. He accepted that the players “Just kind of feel like we let him down”.
On the other hand, NY Devils rookie netminder Akira Schmid made 31 saves to help the team advance to Round 2. Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant said, “Shesty was real good” pondering on how the team gave up goals and blanked out, especially in the 2nd period.
Rangers forward Chris Kreider stated, “I personally feel responsible for some of the goals they scored”. “Being a veteran guy, I’m supposed to be defensively responsible. Obviously, I don’t want to be too conservative in a game like this, but I can’t be on the ice for all four goals against and hurt us like that.”
Following Devils’ win in Game 7, fans mocked the Rangers fans outside of the arena mimicking ‘Slapshot’ which is The Broadway Blueshirts’ iconic goal song. During the trade deadline, the team acquired superstars Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko but they failed to produce results.
They only remained shadows of what they were in their previous performances as they let playoff chances slip by. Gallant stated that “Talent doesn’t mean a thing” if one doesn’t play and work together for the win. In four games the Rangers only picked up two goals, and as their head coach stated, “That’s the bottom line”.
