"I need to address something about the accident. We wholeheartedly stand with Matt Petgrave. The hate that Matt is receiving is terrible and completely uncalled for. I was at the ice level on the bench closest to the accident, I saw both players moving forward".

These words of him come at a time when Petgrave has been bombarded with online hate and abuse. A major reason for this has been his history with “dirty’ plays that put a mark on his career.

Ever since the incident, he has made his social media accounts private. As the UK Police probe the incident, this has raised questions regarding the safety of players. The NHL and other hockey leagues are likely to bring in some new measures to avoid something dangerous and grave like this in the future.
