The Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators game took a grave turn as Sens defenceman Artem Zub left the ice in a bloodied state. The incident happened during the third period when the 28-year-old defenceman crossed paths with Caps captain Alex Ovechkin.
In an attempt to stop Ovie’s shot the defenceman cut him cross to the front when he came in between the puck’s line. Ovechkin puck shot unfortunately did not hit the goal, but Zub’s ear instead. He was left bloodied on ice with his left ear until the officials came to help the defenceman.
Artem Zub was down for a while and it was undoubtedly a horrifying scene for the fans present in the arena. He stumbled across the ice to the locker room with the help of the on-ice officials. As of now, there’s been no update given on the situation. Fans are eagerly waiting to hear a positive update on the 28-year-old’s condition.
Alex Ovechkin wishes positive update on Artem Zub’s condition
After Alex Ovechkin’s puck hit Artem Zub a lightning speed, the Sens player was down for a while. With the officials coming in help, Ovie took the defenceman, helping him on his feet. Although there’s no update as of now, the fans and Ovie sent good wishes to Zub.

The Russian defenceman did not return for the remainder of the game. All prayers and wishes are for him, as one fan questioned, “Why are ear guards not mandatory?” While another noted, “Hope he’s OK. That looked like a real stinger.”
NHL regular season games oftentimes can turn into a dangerous situation for players as they clash and hurdle on the ice. The 2023-24 season has only just started with more games scheduled till 16 teams get selected for the Stanley Cup run. Fans are hoping to see less bloodied situations on ice compared to brawls as the game proceeds as planned.
Following the incident with Artem Zub, Ovechkin for the rest of the game remained scoreless. Although the two facts are not closely related, the Capitals captain undoubtedly hit a new career low on Wednesday night. This is the first time, Ovie failed to score in back-to-back games.
Fans are wondering if surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s record will simply be a dream for yet another season. Ovie did get on the score sheet, as per reports, but it was when ‘The Great Eight’ assisted John Carlson in his goal. The team lost to Sens in a 1-6 record.
