Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin’s head hit to New York Islanders center Jean-Gabriel Pageau reminded the fans that ‘The Great Eight’ is not only a scorer but also a checker. His check followed no penalty by on-ice officials after reviewing the hit.

Crowds at UBS Arena booed following the no-penalty decision, while the Islanders center struggled to get up on his feet. Following the Islander’s 4-3 OT loss to the Capitals, the team is now carrying a score of 23-18-4, as the Capitals accumulate a record of 24-16-6 as of now.

Though Jean-Gabriel Pageau later returned in the period, the Islanders now may have a bone to pick with Capitals star Alex Ovechkin. Capitals right winger T.J. Oshie tied the game at 5.54 in the third period, forcing it into overtime as defenceman Dmitry Orlov scored the game-winning goal

Not to mention Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves helping the team push forward their game-winning streak. In the 2022-23 season, he is carrying a record of 13 wins in 29 games participated. He sealed Pageau’s goal giving Orlov the to shoot the goal in OT.

Kuemper said, “There was no time for panic down when we got down 3-0″. “We started to take it to them physically and that helped turn the tide. Hopefully this is a win we can build off of.”

Capitals coach Peter Laviolette noted on the win, “The guys never quit″. ”We lost battles in the first but we started doing things right at the start of the second. To fight back and push, it was really good.”

The Islanders were quite upset as no penalty was called on Ovie’s check, as defenceman Noah commented, “You’re disappointed in how it finished″. “We got one point but you have to find a way to get both points. Unfortunately we didn’t.”
