Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is on an absolute role considering his performance in the 2022-23 season. He’s undoubtedly, an elite NHL player whose offensive power is often praised, giving him the nickname ‘The Next Sidney Crosby’.

During Oilers’ recent match against the league-leading Boston Bruins, McDavid achieved his 50 goals milestone, 1st in his NHL career. He’s the fastest to achieve the milestone and the 9th active player to do so. McDavid following his historic achievement gave a short reply, “It’s a nice number”.

 Connor McDavid’s performance not marked him as an elite player in the NHL, but also caught the eye of league stars and legends. McDavid mirrored Wayne Gretzky’s feat when the GOAT achieved the 50 goals milestone on the Oilers jersey.

Furthermore, earlier to his NHL 50-goals achievement, ‘The Great Eight’ Alex Ovechkin complimented him saying, “He’s from a different planet”. “How he plays the game. How he controls the puck. He controls his speed. He’s very fun to watch.

“It’s not one player and one year. He’s consistently doing it. Every year. It’s cool to see. It’s great for us. It’s great for fans. It’s great for the kids.” following his game against Arizona Coyotes, he became the first Oiler to reach 50 points mark since Wayne Gretzky in his first 27 games. 

Colorado Avalanche player Nathan Mackinnon also praised the star saying, “How inspiring he is”. “It’s inspiring to see someone be that great. It makes you want to get better. That’s how I feel when I see him. It makes you want to strive for something.

“Greatness in any sport is special, for me, it’s awesome to see. It’s really cool. I know I won’t be as good as him no matter how hard I work but I appreciate what he’s doing and how he does it.”

McDavid’s teammate Leon Draisaitl played a major role in his achieving the recent 50 goals milestone. He found the back of the net and with an assist from Leon, McDavid scored the first goal within 2 minutes into the first period.

During the second period, he scored his 2nd goal with an assist from Cody Ceci and Klim Kostin, when he netted the 50th goal of the season. Unfortunately, the team has lost the last two games, slipping away their third spot entry from the Western Conference Pacific Division standing, according to Clutch Points. 

Oilers coach Jay Wodcroft noted, “A dominant player. By far the best player in the National Hockey League”. “What we’re seeing on the ice is hard to describe,” according to NHL.com.
