Andrei Andreyevich Vasilevskiy is a professional ice hockey goaltender for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, he was chosen by the Lightning as the 19th overall in the 1st round. In the 2018-19 season, he won the Vezina Trophy and was nicknamed the “Big Cat” and “Vasy”. From 2017-18 and from 2021-22, he led the league in wins for 5 consecutive times.

He further led the team to win the Stanley Cup back-to-back in 2020-2021. His contributions in the game earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as the game’s MVP while also holding the NHL record for most wins in a single postseason. Earlier he got selected by the Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the first round of the 2011 Kontinental Hockey League Entry Draft. Later in 2014 after his NHL selection, he signed with the Lightning.

In September 2014, he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning affiliate Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. Within a few months of making an appearance, he earned the CCM/AHL Player of the Week title. He made a 29-save shutout against the Springfield Falcons while cracking the team’s franchise record with an 11-game winning streak. 

He made his NHL debut against the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-1 victory while also becoming the first NHL goalie to ever wear the No. 88. His first shutout game came against the Buffalo Sabres in a 28-save performance in 2015. His first playoff win in the same year made him the first goalie in 24 years to win a playoff in relief in the Finals. 

During the 2015-16 season, Andrei appeared in 24 games with a record of 11-10-0, along with a 2.76 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage. He enjoyed his 100th NHL career game on 26th October 2017. He also became the 6th goalie in the NHL to record 20 wins in 25 games played. Later he got named to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game. That year in February he recorded his 78th NHL career win. 

In June at the 2019 NHL Awards ceremony, Andrei Vasilevskiy won the Vezina Trophy as the top goalkeeper in the league. He led the Lightning to win the Stanley Cup in 2020 against the Dallas Star in Game 6. He set an NHL record for the most minutes played by a goalie in the postseason, and the most postseason wins in a single season. He also participated in the 2014 IIHF World Championship, 2016 World Cup of Hockey, and 2017 World Ice Hockey Championships.
