Carolina Hurricane’s goalie Antti Raanta sustained an upper-body injury during the first period of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round at PNC Arena in North Carolina on Wednesday. Antti Raanta was injured at 7:47 after he got hit by the Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak as he was skating with the puck outside the crease.
Later in time, Pastrnak was assessed with a minor penalty after he made contact with Raanta’s left leg and head in accordance with goaltender interference. Goalie injuries are becoming common in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, especially the stories getting linked to the Hurricanes. The team is already without their starting goalie Frederik Andersen and now they also lost Antti Raanta.

Antti Raanta leaves Game 2 against the Bruins after suffering an injury

The goalie could not return as the Carolina Hurricanes took a 2-0 series lead and continued their season-long winning streak against the Bruins. The coach further added that Raanta is not in concussion protocol. Raanta was injured when he was hit in the head by Bruins forward, and the Hurricanes had to use their 22-year-old rookie Pyotr Kochetkov. Till now Pyotr appeared in3 games for the Hurricanes during the regular season, scoring a 3-0 record with a .902 save percentage, as recorded in nhl.nbcsports.com.
Pyotr Kochetkov saved 30 of 32 shots in Wednesday’s winning game. It’s really sad to note how the Hurricanes had to lose both of their goalkeepers to injuries. This also led their fans to lower their chances of winning in the best Canadian sportsbooks online.
This is the second time in a row that such an accident took place and the teams had to resort to bringing out their third-string players. The same happened to the Pittsburg Penguins and they had to bring out Louis Domingue in overtime in a game against the New York Rangers.
