“Feels important to me” – Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog brings Stanley Cup to children’s hospital in Sweden
Gabriel Landeskog brings Stanley Cup to Sweden
Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog brought the Stanley Cup on another tour to Sweden on Tuesday. It was a well-spent emotional day for the 29-year-old forward. He began the Sweden journey by taking the Cup to his elementary school from where he first started.
He brought the Cup to Lilla Erstagarden, a children’s hospice in Stockholm to visit the patients and the staff of the facility. Landeskog said, “That’s very important to me [to visit Lilla Erstagarden]. I have a connection to the place; my nephew was there a few years ago”. “So, I would like to pay attention and honor the staff and the families there now. It feels important to me.”

At Hovet he stopped with the Stanley Cup to celebrate the occasion with the local people while also visiting his home hockey arena where he played as a teen with Djurgarden IF of the Swedish Hockey League. Unfortunately, Gabriel Landeskog was unable to bring the Cup to the Zinkensdamms Arena where he began his youth hockey career as there was a soccer match going on.

As per nhl.com, Landeskog noted, “I wanted to take the Cup to ‘Zinken.’ After all, that’s where [my youth hockey career] started. There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears spilled there at ‘Zinken'”. “It didn’t work, though, there was some soccer tournament going on there, so I ended up at Hover instead.” He further stated, “It’s been a busy time.” “It’s going to take some time before I really get this, and really will be able to enjoy it. So far it’s been just crazy… but great fun, of course.”
